Jennifer Wegwerth
My name is Jen Wegwerth and I am so excited to be the 1st grade counselor this year! I have been in Saint Paul my whole life and have worked in St. Paul Public Schools for 29 years. I grew up on the West Side of Saint Paul and graduated from Humboldt High School. I earned my bachelor 's degree in education from University of Wisconsin at River Falls and taught middle school geography for many years before becoming a counselor. I have two teenage sons who play lacrosse and hockey and keep me very busy! My husband and I, along with the boys and dog live in Farmington, MN.
Services I Provide:
Classroom Lessons: I teach preventative classroom counseling lessons throughout the school year. Lesson topics include but are not limited to: bully prevention, coping skills, personal safety, and academic success. Students can use the skills learned from these lessons as they continue to navigate life.
Group Counseling: Teachers and parents can refer students for small group skills work throughout the year. Groups typically run 30 minutes, once or twice a week, for up to eight weeks. Topics vary but include: social skills, friendship skills, family change, coping skills, focus, growth mindset, following directions, personal responsibility, and academic skills. Small groups typically begin in October.
Individual Counseling: I will meet with students for a variety of reasons. Teachers, parents, or the students themselves can request for me to meet with a student. Individual sessions might target family change, goal setting, peer conflict and resolution, coping skills, and anxiety. Individual counseling is not therapy, though it is brief and solution-focused. Individual counseling is confidential.
