Capitol Hill Counseling Department Vision:

Capitol Hill Gifted and Talented Magnet School graduates are high-achieving scholars ready to meet the challenges and high expectations required for institutes of higher education and careers in the 21st century. Graduates are considerate, world-class citizens who encourage positive interactions between members of the diverse global community to which we belong. As successful, lifelong learners, Capitol Hill Gifted and Talented Magnet School graduates develop their talents, achieve their fullest potential, value the importance of continued academic and career education, and make a positive and productive impact on the community.

Capitol Hill Counseling Department Mission:

The Capitol Hill Comprehensive School Counseling Program challenges all students in an equitable manner to achieve their highest potential and pursue their dreams, through growth in academic, career, and personal/social domains. School counselors collaborate with all stakeholders to help students become successful lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and positive world-changing citizens in a diverse community. Students are provided equitable opportunities to develop strong skills in the five domains of social and emotional learning: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.

The Capitol Hill Counseling Team offers a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the three domains of student development: Academic, College/Career, and Personal/Social. We provide many services to Capitol Hill students utilizing a multi-tiered approach through:

  • Counseling Clasroom Lessons
  • Group Counseling
  • Individual Counseling
  • Crisis Support
  • Academic Support and Planning
  • School-wide Implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Initiatives
  • 504 Coordination

Lessons, groups and individual student meetings cover a variety of topics that fall under the five CASEL domains:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Self-Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship Skills
  • Responsible Decision Making
