AIMS Students Perform During Debut of American Indian Exhibit at U.S. District Courthouse

Students from American Indian Magnet School recently performed a cultural demonstration of drumming, singing and dancing for a public reception at the U.S. District Courthouse in Minneapolis.

The performance on Nov. 3 debuted the exhibit “Why Treaties Matter: Self-governance in the Ojibwe and Dakota Nations” at the U.S. Courthouse, 300 S. Fourth St. in Minneapolis.

Some students from Harding Senior High School also performed during the event. A narrator informed the audience of the significance of various American Indian dance and regalia styles.

The keynote address was performed by U.S. District Judge Diane Humetewa of Arizona, who was the first ever American Indian women to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a U.S. District Court Judge.
