Let me begin by saying how eager I am to start the new school year and to meet all of you very soon. This is going to be a terrific year.
I am beginning my eleventh year teaching here at Capitol HIll, before which I was a parent of students here. I have a Masters in Social Work from the University of Minnesota and practiced as a Clinical Social Worker for twenty years before receiving my teaching certificate at Macalester. In addition, I have a background in publishing and community organizing and am (relatively) active in local politics---all of which have contributed to what I bring into the classroom community.
My focus throughout the year is to get my students to find their voice and figure out how they can affect change--through writing, speaking up, and any number of other vehicles. Students will hear lots of stories about my three sons (23, 20 and 15), my husband, and, even more interesting, about Ziggy, who is the perfect Disney pet and who has been known to make periodic visits into the classroom.
Again, I look forward to meeting you all--parents and students--and urge you to call me with any questions you may have. You can reach me during my prep time (8:15 to 9:00), but I welcome calls early mornings before school (7 a.m.) and afternoons.
