At that time I was a ski instructor, then I passed some tests and became a certified ski instructor, then a race coach, then a teacher of instructors. This job turned into a career in Vail, Colorado for 15 years! I lived in the mountains, taught the rich and famous, coached racing to high school, to instructors, and all the way up to the Olympic level! I wrote articles for the Journal of Professional Ski Instructors and was asked to
lead a delegation representing the Professional Ski Instructors of America to the Australian resort of Thredbo in Australia. There I taught and gave lessons to their ski instructors and worked in the off season with members of their national team.
In 1983 I decided to leave this career to fulfill a promise that I had made both to myself and my parents: finish college! I knew that I was good at teaching, and my interests in human physiology, anatomy, physical training, and sports
psychology lead me to a degree in Biology and a teaching license (Life Sciences 7-12, General Sciences 5-9). Later I earned a Master's Degree in Education. After two other teaching positions I landed this job here at Capitol Hill (in '89) with your children! I have been at Capitol Hill since they moved to the Rondo building. These are the greatest kids anywhere! I love this job!
The kids at this school challenge me, and I love that. Wow! Some of these kids are quite gifted
and talented! I like kids. Each is unique and individual, and at the 7th grade they are still malleable enough that I can have some positive affect on their lives. That's why I get up in the morning. That's why I come to work at the school. > Like many other teachers, I am an idealist: I believe that I can make a difference. I am out to change the world. That would be my mission statement.
