Students will be graded usuing the District Campus Grading System. Grading categories will be divided into three areas of involvement.
Rehearsal participation Performance involvement Written assignments
Rehearsal Points - Each student is encouraged to maintain a good attendance record in order to contribute to the fulfillment of their choral experience as well as their group responsibility. Participation points are given for warm-ups, sight-singing, and learning performance music during class time. This is an essential component to the grading since the students’ assignments focus primarily on class participation each day.
Expectations are that each student will act responsibly in the following ways: • prompt arrival to class • involvement in warm-up activities • proper posture • no gum • no socializing • attentive to vocal mechanics • involvement in rehearsing songs • attentive to director • participates in choreography when appropriate... • positive attitude during rehearsal • no working on other homework, reading other books or magazines, notes, etc. • take care of music & folder, holding music up during rehearsal • smooth transition from one activity or song to the next...
Performance Points - Each student is required to attend, and is given points (usually between 50-100 points) for performance and after school rehearsal participation. Should a student be unable to attend a performance a note from a parent is required with a legitimate reason for the absence along with the completion of a Performance Absence Assignment (See teacher). Students may also make-up any missed points by completing anything in the Extra Credit/Make-up Points section.
Talent Night is an opportunity for students to perform individually or in small groups. They may sing, dance or play instruments. Ms. Lorenzen will ask each person/group to perform for her prior to the recital for assessment of quality. Any culturally based or style of performance are welcome. This not mandatory but students may receive extra credit for participation in the recital performance night.
Written assignments - Written assignments would involve any music theory assignments, signed forms, written critiques or other written class work. Students are given a chance to test out of the music theory packets. If they do not test out, then they are required to complete the worksheet packets and retest. There are 3 music theory packets. Tests are graded in the Performance Category.
EXTRA CREDIT/MAKE-UP POINTS Students can earn up to 30 points per quarter through extra credit work. Listed below are some of the ways to earn extra credit. • Voice lessons are encouraged and extra credit is given for those students taking lessons.
