Course Description: Art 7/8 is a semester course that meets every day for 1 semester.  Art history, principles and elements, technique, and art criticism are taught using slides, books, lecture, computers, and hands on  practice.  The art of many cultures will be studied in this class.  In the 2008-2009 school year we will study painting, drawing, clay, sculpture, and photography.  Each unit will involve art history, terms, artistic critique, and a project.  Most units will have quizzes.  Progress reports will be sent out monthly, and grades will be posted on the Parent Portal.

Materials Needed
: Students will be expected to come to class with a pencil each day.  They should have something to take notes in.  They may leave notebooks in the room or bring them to class each day.   Students may want to use some of their own supplies in class, but most materials will be provided.  Some students choose to use their own markers, colored pencils, etc. A box of Kleenex from each student would be appreciated, though not required.

Expectations: Students are expected to come to class on time and ready to learn.  They are expected to treat each other and the classroom materials with respect.  They are expected to make an honest attempt at each project, use their time wisely, and do their best.  If any concerns arise, I will contact you.

Parental Involvement: Parents are always welcome to visit class.  If you have something you would like to share with our class, please let me know.  Remember to visit the Capitol Hill website and look at our classroom page for updates and photos of work and classroom activities.

Graduation Standards: The Graduation Standards in Art are now contained within the course.  There will not be a separate grade issued, but the standards will still be addressed.  The graduation standard asessment will be included in the course grade.  Some units will be introduced this year using the Parallel Curriculum Model which was adopted by the school in 2005.
