COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class will explore many aspects of music with some exploration in other Arts areas such as drama and dance. Students will be using the “Music and You” textbook in class. Through the various medias and live performances, students will also be encouraged to participate in classroom performance/presentation experiences.
COURSE UNITS: Music Elements, Theory & Styles Western Musical Styles Music & the Arts of the World’s Cultures Community Arts Article Presentations
COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Bring a pencil or pen, notebook and folder each day to class. Come with an open mind to learn about Music. Be prepared to express and share your experiences and background in the Arts. There will be various classroom assignments and projects throughout the course. Extra Credit - Students may earn extra credit points by any of the following activities: • attend a concert, play, exhibit, recital...bring proof of attendance plus a written critique of experience • Arts lessons...bring proof of lessons plus a written critique of experience • Perform for class beyond project presentation...must be arranged with teacher • Write a report and present to class beyond project presentation...must be arranged with teacher
Extra credit may be turned in at anytime. The maximum amount of extra credit given per quarter is 30 points.
CLASSROOM POLICIES: • Students are expected to show respect in all that they do and say!!! • Textbooks will not be assigned individually but will be available in class for each student. • There is to be no food, candy, drink, or gum in class. • Punctuality will assist in the smooth operation of the class. • Students will receive monthly progress reports at the end of each month to be taken home and returned the next day with a parent signature.
