Fundraising
Capitol Hill has many fundraising opportunities. Take a minute to learn what various fundraisers support.

Fall Fundraisers

Spring Fundraisers

Ongoing Fundraisers

To help with fundraising, contact Kristin Cleveland at kjcleveland@comcast.net or 651-645-5559.

Wrapping Paper Fundraiser for Field Trips

School administrators organize this fundraiser. The proceeds fund all field trips. Typically, field trips are organized for each grade by the teachers of that grade.

A letters is typically sent home in the fall of each year along with a catalog and instructions. The letter specifies the amount that school hopes each student can raise, either by selling wrapping paper or by sending a cash donation. We appreciate that some people prefer to send a cash donation in lieu of selling. If you didn't see that letter, ask you child's teacher. The amount is in the $40-$50 range for most grades. (Of course, all students go on all field trips. The fundraising goal takes into account that not all families can or chose to participate in the fundraiser).

Many parents purchase wrapping paper for holiday shopping, as well as lots of tasty treats and great gifts, too. Get an early start on that holiday shopping and help your school at the same time.

Cash for PTO Budget

The Parent Teacher Organization sends a letter to all families in the fall asking for donations to fund the PTO budget

This straight-forward approach has worked well in years past to fund the many PTO activities that enhance communications within our school, build a sense of community in our school, support our teachers, and supplement our curriculum.

United Way Donations

The Capitol Hill PTO is officially a 501(c)(3) entity, so if you work for an employer who has a United Way campaign, please consider a donation directly from your United Way contribution.

Here's how to designate Capitol Hill PTO. In the "donor designation space" on your United Way form, write in "Capitol Hill Fundraising, Inc." That is our tax-deductible, IRS-identified name for taking in contributions. Your United Way donation will then be forwarded to the Capitol Hill PTO and will help fund the PTO Budget

April Foolishness Carnival and Silent Auction

Held on a Friday night in April, this carnival is so fun that you will forget it’s a PTO fundraiser. Watch for flyers in the spring about volunteering your time and donating prizes, cakes, auction items etc. And be sure to come and bring your family and friends.

Scholastic Book Fair

Watch for flyers about this. You and your children can purchase Scholastic Books right at school, typically during student conferences. The book fair raises money that classrooms then use to expand their libraries.

Box Tops for Education and Milk Lids

This year our school will again participate in fundraising program from General Mills called Box Tops for Education. The school typically earns over $1000 a year on this. Let’s keep it up!

  1. Clip Box Tops from General Mills products. Box Tops logos are found on hundreds of General Mills products including General Mills cereals, Betty Crocker ® fruit snacks and other Betty Crocker products, Yoplait ® yogurt multipacks, Yoplait ® Go-GURT® yogurt, Yoplait ® Exprèsse™ yogurt, Lloyd’s® barbeque buckets, Green Giant®, Totino's®, Progresso®, Old El Paso®, and Gold Medal® products.

  2. Send Your Box Tops to School. Turn them in to the big collection barrel in the school office. Volunteers count them and send them to General Mills.
  3. Capitol Hill Gets a Check. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents. Our school can earn up to $20,000 each school year. The more Box Tops logos we collect, the more CASH for Capitol Hill! Those dimes add up!

For more information, visit the website www.boxtops4education.com.

Save Kemps and Land o Lakes milk lids as well.  Please clean your lids and collect them until you have either 25, 100, or 200.  Place them in baggies with the amount clearly marked on the baggie when you send them in to school.  Be sure to keep Kemps and Land o Lakes lids separate as they need to be sent to separate companies.

Web Shopping

More than 300 merchants selling books, clothing, toys, computers and software, office products and more are donating funds to schools through rebate programs. If you’re an online shopper, please consider these easy programs for supporting Capitol Hill with much needed cash. Here’s just a few companies who participate in this program: Jcrew.com, gap.com, learningco.com, SmarterKids.com, Barnes&Noble.com Amazon.com, LLBean.com, PCConnection.com, Officemax.com.

The concept is an easy one. You register with Schoolpop.com or boxtops4education.com and when you shop at any of the more than 300 exciting merchants a rebate--up to 10%-- is given to the school you’ve chosen. Items DO NOT cost more when purchased through Schoolpop or Box Tops Marketplace. It's simple and it works.

Register now! It's easy, it's free and it only takes a few minutes. Go to www.schoolpop.com/register or www.boxtops4education.com to register and start raising money for Capitol Hill today! (Merchants and rebates vary.) Choose Capitol Hill Magnet School in St. Paul, MN, 55103. Then, be sure to bookmark schoolpop.com and/or boxtops4education.com. To earn cash for our school, you'll need to start at one of these websites every time you shop online. If you go directly to a merchant or don’t see “your purchases support Capitol Hill” on the top of your screen, then our school will not benefit from your purchase.

Credit Card Shopping

There are many merchants who donate a portion of your purchases to the school of your choice. They’ve made it as easy as possible for you and it costs you nothing at all but a few minutes of your time.

Target

If you use a Target credit card, you can designate Capitol Hill as the school you’d like to support. Target automatically will give Capitol Hill 1% of your Target purchases and .5% of purchases outside of Target. That could add up to a lot of money! The more people who register, the more money Capitol Hill can make. If you already have a Target Visa or Target Guest Card, please designate Capitol Hill by calling 1-800-316-6142 or on their website www.target.com (go under community, then school fundraising). If you’d like to get a Target card, you can pick up an application at any Target store—and be sure to designate Capitol Hill as the school you’d like to support.

Schoolpop

You can register your credit or debit cards with Schoolpop and when you make a purchase from a participating merchant (over 300 currently participating), Capitol Hill gets the rebate. For more information, visit the website www.schoolpop.com

Boxtops4education Visa Card

Box Tops has a Box Tops visa card you can apply for. A full 1% of each purchase—groceries, gas, travel, etc goes to our school when you designate Capitol Hill. Every purchase counts! We can earn up to $20,000 each school year. Call 1-800-227-9605 or visit the website to apply and designate Capitol Hill. For more information, visit www.boxtops4education.com.

Printer Cartridge Recycling

There is an exciting program that will help Capitol Hill acquire FREE technology and/or recreation equipment and help save the environment at the same time. Through FundingFactory’s Cartridge Recycling Program, we have a wonderful opportunity to recycle printer cartridges and, in turn, obtain technology and/or recreation equipment. This program is FREE and easy, but it won’t work without your support.

In order to help out Capitol Hill you simply need to donate something that you would normally just throw away--empty laser and inkjet printer cartridges. These cartridges can be from printers, fax machines, and even desktop copiers. By recycling these cartridges through FundingFactory, we earn points that we can exchange for new technology and/or recreation equipment. The only thing we need you to do is to donate these cartridges to us instead of throwing them away. Not only will it help us receive much needed equipment, it is also FREE, and you will be doing your part to help save the environment!

Let’s make this recycling program a huge success by working together to collect as many empty cartridges as we can. Please bring your empty cartridges to the office or to Mr. McGill. All laser and inkjet cartridges are accepted for recycling, and most leading brand cartridges are worth points. For more information, please go to the website www.fundingfactory.com.

Another great part of this program is their Business Support Program, which allows businesses to support organizations FREE of charge. They do so by providing businesses with prepaid shipping boxes. If you work for a business that might be interested in supporting us, please visit FundingFactory’s Web site, or call, toll-free, 1.888.883.8237.
