Kari Jones and Dawn Peterson are the Instructors for this class.
This class is intended for students who need an extra class to work on their homework, improve their grades, and learn valuable study skills in order to be a successful student. This class consists of: study tools, organizational tools, ideas, and activities that will improve their study skills. The teacher will introduce a topic on a specific study skill and then students will be allowed quiet work time for the rest of the period. Each day students will need to have their planner, pen/pencil and homework. We are asking students to use the bathroom and drinking fountain before class unless it is an emergency so that they will be focused on doing their job. Hopefully your child has a quiet place to do their work at home that is without interruptions.
Materials Needed:
Pencil/Pen
Large 3 Ring Binder if student doesn’t have one--we will furnish it
Planner with passes and they should be writing all of their homework in it and important dates
If planner is lost, student may buy them for $5.00 at school. THEY NEED THEIR PLANNERS AND THEIR BINDERS EVERYDAY FOR CLASS!
Grading:
Daily points for staying on task and homework completion. Points will also be awarded for bringing their planner and having their materials.
Grading Scale:
A=100-90% B=89-80% C=79-70% D=69-60% N=59-0%
Curriculum:
We will be using various resources and their will be a topic everyday to help improve their study skills in all of their core classes and required electives. Their will be NO Homework in this class. If they receive an assignment it is to be done during class time.
Topics Include:
Organization, Binder Organization, Goal Setting Skills, Student Success Skills, Writing to Learn, Collaboration, and Reading Skills
Requirements:
Students will need to pay attention and do daily calendar. Students are asked to stay on task and do their homework or study.
Consequences:
Warning=Student is off task and teacher redirects them.
2nd time= Student gets name on the board
3rd time+ student gets a mark with name on board
4th time=Student is sent to the office and gets a “0” for that class period.
End Goal of this Class:
Student has found ways to be successful in school and has passing grades in ALL of their classes and passes their MCA tests.
Homework Notification:
Dawn Peterson will send you a weekly homework list of all the assignments that your child needs to turn in and topics that they are discussing that week.
