Capitol Hill Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Meeting Minutes
Monday, March 5, 2007  7:00 pm

Minutes from the February 5, 2007 PTO meeting were approved as submitted.

Treasurer's Report (Julie Taylor):  Checking, savings, and money market
total balance is $18,628.02.  Direct Drive has had 100 donations so far,
averaging $122.15 each.  1st-3rd Grade Dance only cost $101.96, under
budget.  T-shirts sales have covered costs and are now profitable.

Old Business:

Joint Rondo Playground Initiative:  The playground won't be installed
until next fall.  The playground area must be landscaped before
installation and they need to wait for a STAR grant.  Each school is
supposed to find 35 auction items.  CH needs more auction items and more
publicity.  PTO will use its email list to publicize the event.  We'll try
to get another notice in the newsletter.  RSVPs have been slow in coming
in, the cost of auctioneer is high, and admission is free.  Let's hope it
brings in money.

The classrooms are raising money by bringing in change.  It would be
helpful for the kids to have some feedback on how much money is raised,
like a graph showing how much money has come in and how much is needed.
The homeroom that raises the most money gets a pizza party. There was some
discussion about whether it would work better to offer a pizza party to
the homeroom in each grade that raises the most money.

April Foolishness Carnival:  Carnival is April 20th.  The next meeting is
Thursday March 8.  Everything seems on track.  Volunteer forms are being
prepared. Tickets have not yet arrived but are on order.  Ed Davis is
soliciting items for the live auction, which include a 30 minute flight,
amusement park passes, and other exciting items.  There was a discussion
about possibly auctioning off a parking space or front row seating at
concerts and plays.  Mr. Mariucci will send requests for business
donations on letterhead as needed.  There will be a silent auction as well
for smaller items.

There was a brief discussion of sound problems in the gym.  The dances are
pretty loud.  The sound system needs to be repaired, but sound panels
might help as well.  A future project for PTO?

Principal's Report: Site Council will be working on SCIP (School
Continuous Improvement Plan) and budget.  There is a district initiative
to incorporate the principles of learning.  The parallel curriculum model
work that has been done fits nicely into that.  The district budget, even
with the referendum money, may be $7 million short.  Enrollment in the
district is going down.

The math curriculum meeting will be held soon.  Kellie Saindon and Alex
Ford will attend, along with two interested parents.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm.

Respectfully submitted by Randi Madisen, PTO Secretary
