I will be able to answer most questions students and parents have about junior high. I will update this site weekly. Enjoy yourself for the rest of the summer! Don't
worry about school, it will be here soon enough-and we will have a great year! Now, some advice from a teacher who knows and appreciates the junior high experience. It will be normal for your child not to tell you everything. They are becoming young adults, and their worlds are changing. In school, they will now have 7 teachers, and a homebase teachers they will be accountable to. They will be overwhelmed sometimes, and probably forget to tell you the important details of junior high life until the last minute. Below are some ways to make life a little easier.
Parents: Check the website often. Register for parent portal. (You can do this on the main Capitol Hill page.) Ask your child how school is going. It will be rare for them not to have homework. Remember that each teacher sees about 150 students a day, and it may take a while to get back to you. E-mail or call me if you have questions that are not being answered. I will try to answer as soon as possible.
Students: Your teachers and your parents care about you. We want you to do well. If you are struggling-TELL SOMEONE! There is lots of help to be had if you ask. My former students left this advice for you:
1. Keep up with your homework. It isn't too bad if you just do it each night. 2. Check the website. Most teachers write the weekly assignments there. 3. If the teachers doesn't have the assignments on the web, remember to write them in your planner-and find a buddy in class you can call as a last resort. 4. Get involved with something-sports, yearbook, tech crew, or math team. It is a good way to make friends. 5. Remember to ask for help-find a teacher you like-and count on them! 6. You do not start with an A in class. You have to earn it. 7. Enjoy junior high-it goes by really fast!
I am looking forward to getting to know each of you this year. See you September 2nd.
