Mr. McGill

Welcome to Elementary Science at Capitol Hill.  I am excited to begin my 17th year at Capitol Hill and my 6th year as science specialist. I am especially excited to meet our 732 young scientists!

I have three goals this year for science education 1.) challenging all students 2.) modifying existing curriculum to reflect an “inquiry” model of science education, and 3.) introducing new engineering curriculum. If you have ideas about any of these topics, I would love to hear from you!

More about Mr. McGill

I grew up in a scientific household. As a youngster, I read (ok, looked at the pictures and graphs) of my dad’s science journals: Journal of the American Medical Association, Lancet, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, and his favorite (because it was the only one he had a chance of understanding!) Scientific American.  I loved it when a new issue of SA would show up in the mailbox!

Besides a passion for science, I am one the finest trumpet players in the Twin Cities. My mom says so. Thirty five years of practice and dedication have led directly to the pinnacle of my career -- lead trumpet in Brady's Big Band. He also plays in Blue Waters Brass and Camarta Brass. His proudest achievement is his son Conor. Conor is a rugby player, a euphonium player, and an account executive at Spye, Inc. (Not at the same time.) The euphonium is a large trumpet.

Currently, I am a gifted and talented teacher (the kids, not the teacher) at Capitol Hill School. I used to play tennis and work for the United States Tennis Association, but now I am way too old so I play golf.
