Biographical Information of Ms. Prince, 6th grade teacher
deb done.jpg

Deborah Wright-Prince

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to teach reading/literature and math to the sixth graders at Capitol Hill since 1995. There is no other school where I would rather teach.

I love learning as well as teaching. In 1969 I entered the University of Minnesota in the College of Liberal Arts. A few years later I switched to the College of Education where I majored in physical education and minored in dance. Next, I attended Graduate School also at the University and studied exercise physiology. Then, in order to teach elementary school I completed the one year elementary education certification program. Finally, I ended my formal education by entering Graduate School one last time and earned a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Children's Literature. I continue to learn by taking workshops in young adult and children's literature and courses offered by the Minnesota Humanities Commission.

My passions include reading, many kinds of physical activity, traveling and my two greyhounds. I am an avid reader of both adult and children's literature and try to stay "in the loop" by reviewing new books for an annual University of Minnesota publication. I especially enjoy being outside so I can often be found biking, hiking or skating. I enjoy dancing to almost any music and enjoy teaching international folk dances to my students. In order to stay fit II take lots of exercise classes and lift weights. Traveling both nationally and internationally is an important part of my life. One goal I have set for myself is to step foot on each of the 7 continents before I reach the age of 60.

Folk Dancing
Starting the second Thursday in January, 2008 the Capitol Hill International Folk Dance group will start up again. We meet in the blue courtyard from 2:30 until 3:40 every week. Because the group was started two years ago, we will have three different grades represented; sixth, seventh and eighth. Beginners are welcome. It's great exercise in addition to being fun. Students should bring their own snack if they tend to be hungry at the end of the school day.
