calculator:– Connected Math 2 students (mostly 7th graders) will need a scientific calculator which has buttons for x squared, square root, sin, cos, tan. This type of scientific calculator costs between $10 and $15. Some students do purchase more expensive graphing calculators although it is not necessary to purchase a graphing calculator at this time.
Graphing calculator:– Connected Math 3 and 3+, Integrated Math 2, Geometry students (mostly 8th graders and some accelerated 7th and 6th graders) – graphing calculator recommended. The TI-83 plus is a good choice for a graphing calculator; cost is about $85. This is an expensive item and not a required one. Teachers have a supply of graphing calculators that students may use in the classroom. However, students will need at least a scientific calculator (see description above). Some parents and students like to wait and see how much the graphing calculator is actually used before making a purchase which is fine.
